The need for damage control
OLF is a secular political organization. It became a common household name for all citizens of Oromiyaa because of that policy, a policy that rallied them to struggle together for their lost honor and dignity. That is what made it a symbol of hope for liberation and resistance against injustice. It is to deny this role that anti-Oromummaa forces have come out with their axes to hack it down. Whistle blowers pointed cracks appearing within the leadership of OLF and the looming danger much earlier. Some even went further and requested the National Council (Shanee) to abandon the height it has occupied through conspiracy and call for a balanced Congress that could maintain organizational harmony and unity of purpose and also redirect the way ahead. But they were not listened to until incompetence and system infestation by infiltrators led to its total decay. Its change of strategy from independence to democratization of the empire, the empire that OLF was supposed to dismantle, further created more fissures within the nationalist camp. To save the name OLF from being erased from history, the group took responsibility and tried to uphold the honor of the fallen heroes and the nation. It declared that there is no two but only one OLF with the kaayyoo of liberation and that that was the OLF led by it. But Shanee clung to the name and even tried to prove its legitimacy by taking the other to alien court. Therefore any person who is fifty years and above at present was mature enough to have experienced conditions under which the movement for Oromummaa started. The clever can even observe things before that age. This is to say that there are living witnesses for Oromo life which was worse than the present in some aspect. It was kept in total darkness until the revolution of 1974. Comparing the situation in Oromiyaa then and now no one can deny the significant progress made in political life and outlook of the people. Towards social Movement Proposal to strengthen Oromo Relations
Human undertakings are not limited to political activities but there are also social and economic ones, which can not be ignored. Since each of them is important, to swarm over one of them alone will not lead to a balanced societal development. Under normal situation political power is employed to control protect and develop all other activities. For this reason it could be a bone of contention between rival groups. A political movement that does not control a definite territory is in a state of evolution; it has to complete this evolution to claim control over other societal activities. It is now over a century since Oromo lost political power. They have a big country, large population, tremendous wealth and potential capabilities that do not have an equal in the region. Millennium, a Disguise for Human Right Abuse
It was in 1980 that many Oromo nationals were rounded up and taken to Minilik’s Grand Palace. The Grand Palace had the Grand Hall where imperial feasts were given and where graduation ceremonies and appointments were made. In front of it was a large parking lot for dignitaries that come to the Grand Hall occasions. Under the parking lot was a grave like underground structure. Darg’s ceremonies start with chanting slogans and throwing left arm with clenched feast into the air. One of such slogans was “We shall build our party on the grave of antirevolutionary”. Oromo Nationals were taken directly to the torture chamber at a time when Darg was celebrating the formation of Commission to Organize the Party of the Working People of Ethiopia (COPWE) in the Grand Hall. The Oromo were the most productive people before they were reduce to serfdom and their labor freely exploited to a never heard of magnitude. That happened over a century ago when they came under alien rule, which threw them into a long slumber.
